Why where you sit matters
In poker, acting last is a massive advantage. When you see what your opponents do before you decide, you have more information and can make better choices with the exact same cards.
Why It Matters
A mediocre hand played in position is often more profitable than a good hand played out of position. Position lets you control the pot size and extract maximum value.
Each seat at the poker table has a name. Positions rotate clockwise after every hand so everyone takes a turn in each seat.

Which is the best position at the poker table?
Early position (UTG, UTG+1) acts first and needs strong hands because many players remain to act. Late position (Cutoff, Button) acts last and can play a much wider range of hands profitably.
Early Position
Play tight (~15% of hands). You have the least information and act first on every street.
Late Position
Play wider (~35-45% of hands). You see everyone act before you and can steal blinds more effectively.
Who posts the big blind?
The button (dealer position) is the most profitable seat at the table. You act last post-flop, giving you full information on every street. Top players win the majority of their profits from this single position.
Button Advantage
With only the blinds left to act behind you pre-flop and last to act on every street after, you can profitably play nearly half of all starting hands from the button.
